Nourishing LA One Food Distribution at a Time:

Meet Resilient Volunteer Rodolfo Alamillo

For the past two years, Rodolfo Alamillo has been a dedicated member of Resilient Agency’s Food & Nutrition team, working tirelessly to make sure Los Angeles families have access to the fresh, healthy food they need to thrive.

Each week, Rodolfo helps coordinate one of 17 rotating distribution sites across the city, unloading pallets, sorting produce, and assembling generous grocery packages for neighbors in need. “We want every family to have good, nutritious food—fresh fruit, vegetables, and drinks that they can actually enjoy,” he says.

Through this commitment, Resilient Agency’s Food & Nutrition Program now serves over 1,400 individual households each month, providing more than 5,200 households with groceries in 2024 alone. Each family receives an average of four full bags of groceries, enough to feed a household for the week.

Resilient Agency has responded with care, efficiency, and creativity to a trifecta of crises—from the devastating Los Angeles wildfires to heightened ICE raids to the sudden suspension of SNAP benefits this November. To ensure every family can safely receive the resources they need, the team has redesigned its distribution model to meet people where they are. Rather than forming long, visible lines that might draw unwanted attention or create safety risks, staff and volunteers now pre-package groceries and deliver them directly to families and community sites. Using U-Haul trucks, they set up mobile hubs across high-need neighborhoods, distributing food quickly, discreetly, and without barriers. These thoughtful adjustments ensure that trust, dignity, and safety remain central to every interaction.

The need has only grown sharper in recent months. With SNAP benefits suspended amid the government shutdown, 1.5 million Los Angeles County residents have lost access to food assistance. Across the county, nearly one in four households experiences food insecurity, and many families, especially undocumented and working-class residents, fall outside formal safety nets.

Rodolfo’s commitment extends beyond food distribution. As part of Resilient Agency’s Safe Passage Program, he patrols routes in high-risk areas around schools and parks, helping protect students from threats like violence and trafficking. In 2024 alone, Resilient staff and volunteers completed over 1,700 Safe Passage route patrols, ensuring secure pathways for youth and families traveling through some of Los Angeles’ most impacted neighborhoods.

“When people tell us, ‘If you weren’t doing this, we wouldn’t have food for the week,’ it makes it all worth it,” Rodolfo says. “It feels good to know we’re helping take a little stress away.”

Rodolfo’s story reflects the heart of Resilient Agency’s mission: nourishing bodies, strengthening safety, and building community resilience—one act of service at a time.
